Once inside the lock, there was no current to negotiate, which made for my kind of boating. I circled in front of the Yacht Club as if I had done this many times before… what a fantastic feeling! Walking up the impressive entrance of the South Carolina Yacht Club one can’t help but be awestruck approaching the massive front porch. I have two Cotons, Bandit and Gatsby, and they are a wonderful part of my family, but as much as they mean to me, there is no way I would leave them in the house when it is being shown. Making this kind of concession can be tough, especially here on Hilton Head Island, where we love our pets as much as anyone. Why such a strong stance on pets in the house during a showing?

Here are some questions asked of by Frank Dune of Celebrate Hilton Head about the current real estate market.

1. To put the current real estate “slump” in perspective, how is it similar and how is it different from other cyclical downturns that you have experienced in this market throughout your real estate career? Inventory levels are similar to the 1991 down turn. Today there are about the same number of units on the market, although we have a higher percentage of Short Sales and Real Estate Owned (REO – bank owned) properties. As usual Hilton Head Island entered the down turn later and I believe it will exit the economic down turn before the rest of the country. Another interesting change this market has brought about is that today we have more properties for the end user (non-investment). In 1991 I feel there was a higher percentage of resort rental properties.

Picking a real estate agent is a lot like learning to sky dive. You want the person packing your chute to have a great deal of experience.

September was a good month regarding Hilton Head Plantation. You could even say that the real state activity was relatively strong with 22 properties (in 2008 this number was 12) going under contract and 15 closing (6 more than this time last year)!
